Because a conservative, anti-abortion legislator called for an investigation into Planned Parenthood’s practices, the globally successful Susan G. Komen Foundation has had to pull the funding they have been providing to clinics, for breast cancer screenings. Komen’s new criteria bars any organization, under investigation, from receiving funds from the foundation. This keeps women with little, or no insurance, from receiving the medical care they need.
The decision also leaves philanthropically minded people in a lurch. Many people who have been supporting both organizations will now have to make a decision of their own. To continue to support a charity that is no longer funding services to women who need them the most, or support an organization that provides life saving services on a shrinking budget.
