BL Poets: …Pa’lante…

National Poetry Month

…Pa’lante…

By  Erica Ramos

Pa’lante, Pa’lante Siempre Pa’lante
es lo que cantaron nuestra gente!
Vino Colón y dice que nos descubrió,
but look into our history and you’ll see it was the Taino.
The Caribs, Tainos and Arawaks fueron los que empezaron nuestra tierra,
so why is it our people are to this day consumed in the white man’s guerra?
Vinieron y trataron de robarnos de todo,
pero jamás nunca nos llevan el orgullo.
El orgullo de ser Boricua ni se puede describir,
viene en mis lágrimas y en mi sangre y se queda muy dentro de mi.
Everyone sings and screams dique “Yo soy Boricua…”
pero ni la mayoría de la juventud sabe sobre su Isla.
We must rise and help out at least one hermano or hermana,
enseñarle la luz y lo que traiga lo de mañana.
Cuentale de la sangre que perdieron nuestros antepasados,
they gave their sweat, tears and were filled with sorrows.
Debemos de reclamar siendo Boricua,
como hicieron los demas dandonos vida.
With this knowledge para siempre saldremos adelante,
Pa’lante, Pa’lante Siempre Pa’lante!

This is my piece… It’s Erica Ramos (s was missing) but thanks for posting! :-)

  3. Oh my! This is what is wrong with ppl. I really hope Erica Ramos is a child. First the poem is half spanish half english and doesn’t rhyme, but hey I don’t know much about poetry second we are boricua/puerto rican/portorro (straight from the island) because we are all races combined without the white man we wouldn’t be Boricua we would just be Tainos. We are Black from Nigeria, Tainos and Spaniard. Sounds great but I would much rather listen to Andres Jimenez. Now, that’s patriotic!

  4. Comments like this ^^^ is why our people don’t strive to go above and beyond. . Instead of giving credit for trying we put our people down. When will the negativity stop?

@Romelia Perez-Marco – clearly you didn’t read above where I acknowledged it was my piece & as you can see from my picture I’m not a child. The poem does rhyme but even if it didn’t that isn’t what poetry is only about. It’s a form of expression & in some instances does rhyme but it is not the standard for poetry. I also suggest you read into some history & find out where the term Boricua comes from- it has nothing to do with the white mans influence. So without the white man we would still be Boricua. But thanks for taking the time anyways to read my piece even if you don’t know what you’re talking about.
