It happens all the time. Another article, photo slide show, or E! special about women who are still sexy after 40. Makes you think, what was the expectation? A quick downward slide into Mom jeans and baggy sweaters?
What is 40 supposed to look like? Having crossed the threshold myself, I wonder that often. Then I think, why does it matter? Why do I suddenly need validation and question who I should be or question what I should look like?
It’s a different world today and women in their 40s are setting a new standard. We’re not on a downward slide, we’re just beginning to appreciate life and the experiences it has afforded us. Women like Jennifer Lopez can date a man 18 years her junior with no apologies, despite every cougar reference in the tabloids.

If I may add my 2 cents in this thread,,,age is not the issue at all,,,and if u choose to jump out from one relationship & into another without giving urself some me-time, that’s on you ( given that ur a childless parent) But when children are involved, that’s a problem. What message is one sending out to the young minds of children when u introduce a new partner to them after their real dad? & if the new relationship doesn’t workout, do u keep finding new partners & introducing your kids to the 3rd, 4th or 5th partner you,ve met? A childs mind is the greatest recorder.
