Latin Jazz artists plan own concert to protest Grammys

attending the Grammy Awards Ceremony. Last year, the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (the organization that controls the Grammy Awards) decided to reduce the amount of categories that receive awards.

Overall, this eliminated trophies for separate male and female performances as well as for groups in the following genres: Latin jazz, Hawaiian music, zydeco, traditional blues and American Indian music. If after all your hard work, the industry chooses not to recognize your accomplishments, then what do you do?

That’s right, you host your own show. In protest of the Grammys, many artists will be performing at the “Not Those Awards All-Star Latin Jazz Jam” on Sunday at the Mama Juana’s nightclub, to be preceded by a rally in front of the Staples Center.
