I’m not going to tell you something you don’t already know - Oscar is a white, middle-aged man. While most of us have believed this for years, now the LA Times actually conducted an investigation into the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences membership. Because the Academy has never released a list of member’s names, the reporters interviewed actors and their representatives and were able to identify 89 percent of the members.
Would you respect an organization whose membership was 94 percent white and 77 percent male? Well unfortunately, these are the findings in the report.
Frank Pierson, former Academy president is quoted as saying, “I don’t see any reason why the academy should represent the entire American population. That’s what the People’s Choice Awards are for.” “We represent the professional filmmakers, and if that doesn’t reflect the general population, so be it.”
With an attitude like that, how are young writers, actors, directors, and producers of color going to get a break.

I bet you the majority of Oscar voters are not Latino and they are not conservative Republicans either. Try urban Democrat “progressive” elitist baby boomers that read the New York Times. Many have Latino maids and gardeners. Of course they don’t want to release names, because then the public will see how one sided the whole thing is.
