An English-language “La Reina del Sur” coming to a TV near you

La Reina del Sur broke records in both Spanish and English-language television. With a budget of $10 million, it was not only Telemundo’s most expensive production, but it was the network’s highest-rated program in its 19-year history. The May 30, 2011 finale was the most-watched show in any language. These numbers did not go unnoticed by Fox TV Studios, who will be adapting the telenovela for an English-speaking audience.

This initiative by Fox TV Studios comes as no surprise, as News Corp. recently announced that it will be launching a Spanish-language network. The telenovela adaptation is part of the larger strategy to produce more content for the growing Latino audience in the U.S.
