Recent unemployment numbers show that the jobless rate among Latinos has jumped back up to 11 percent. I think the percentage is misleading, though, because it doesn’t take into account the young men working unofficially for their uncles and the young girls put to work by their moms cooking and cleaning. The new unemployment figures did little to sway conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh, who still labels Latinos as “the job-stealing Mexicans.”

Officials at the U.S. Justice Department are warning the state of Florida to end its hunt for ineligible voters 90 days before its primary, a tactic which is being criticized as an attempt to intimidate minority voters away from the polls. In a letter to the governor of Florida, Attorney General Eric Holder wrote, “I know Florida’s called ‘America’s Penis,’ but that’s no reason for you to be a d—-.”

A Los Angeles police officer arrested a woman who took thousands of dollars from unsuspecting undocumented immigrants by posing as an immigration agent. Now that the story of someone posing as a government official has circulated throughout the country, it’s unlikely any Latino will answer a knock at their door for the next 50 years.

The state of New Mexico is dealing with its worst disaster in the state’s history. But enough about Gov. Susana Martinez.

Opponents of Alabama’s strict new immigration law are warning tourists to keep away from the state. It won’t take much convincing, however, because Alabama hasn’t been the top Spring Break destination since… well, ever (something about men in white hoods).

Rosario Dawson, America Ferrera, Pitbull and Maná are among a list of Latino celebrities actively encouraging the Latino youth to vote in this year’s election. Ferrera’s campaign is cleverly named “America4America,” so, naturally, the campaign launched by conservatives – who resent the actress’s pro-immigrant stance – has devised the awkward and revealing slogan “America is un-American.”

On June 1, the Venezuelan government announced a new law that will place a ban on gun ownership for private citizens, allowing military personnel, police officers and private security teams to keep their weapons. When protesters demanded to know why some citizens will be allowed to own guns and others won’t, President Hugo Chávez responded in Orwellian fashion, “All Venezuelans are equal, but some are more equal than others.”

Argentina’s National University of La Plata is honoring the Puerto Rican band Calle 13 for its contributions to communication and culture. The capital city of Buenos Aires is also recognizing the group’s contributions by renaming calle 13 “Calle 13.”

hahaha. A four thousand dollar dildo? They should have asked how many have been sold prior to the theft.

Hector: if you never visit the great state of Alabama it will matter not one small particle. Stay in your own hood or better yet trace your ancestry and go back to the empty desolate wasteland they have inhabited for ages. Why is abiding by the laws of the state and the desire of the LEGAL residents of the state such a foreign premise for liberals like you? Why not invest some of your limited talent and ability to articulating REAL problems like violence; corruption; graft; murder and abject poverty that push your illegal audience to steal their way into our Country and oftentimes become recipients of the limited largess of the LEGAL hardworking Alabamian taxpayer. Then maybe you leave your doors unlocked; pantry open so that any old Jose can. come right in?
