Concerns over privacy with the use of Facebook remain a concern in the minds of many, but they’re usually founded on Facebook’s own privacy policy. Now there’s a different concern, companies out there, including law enforcement in Madison, Wisconsin are requiring that applicants give them access to log in to their personal Facebook pages, essentially serving as a background check. Is this an illegal practice? Not necessarily, there are no laws in the book right now, but companies do risk lawsuits from these applicants and even Facebook itself, which is against this practice as it violates its terms of service.

Might as well be homeless. At least then I would be stripped of any human/civil rights
Wouldn’t do it! That can’t b right!

They can kiss my lily white a$$ ! they already have a background and hey I’ll disclose mine if they disclose theirs lol
the asking for fb password , is illegal..thats why many congress , & reps , are asking for which company , also fb wont allow it .. but if it meant , food on table , paying bills , i would make a fake profile ,& give em that .. .. as for crd chk , i know tons that do that , to see if wanted in another state , police issues , stolen anything .. { heck i dont ,mind that } had to get a clearance through FBI & secret service , just for top secret clearance , just for a recept job ..
Saw an article that made the point about how sharing your password violated the terms of agreement. So with that and the violation of privacy any employer or potential employer is basically opening themselves up to a nice juicy lawsuit.
Not much. Just the general info. Employee does not equal slave/property.
If I have to give up any person information, then that job isn’t for me. We as a nation need to protest these kind of big brother laws, otherwise we are slowly and willingly giving up our Bill of Rights.
Toooo far
So when we all have alternate accounts that we tell them is the “real” account, what will they find there? nothing but kitties/puppies and family pics…oh, and correspondence with the cousin who runs the church group and lots of postings about this great job we’re applying for.
oh, and open that one up to all the “farmville” postings!
i would love to know if this snooping trend is cross-industry/ cross-function or just specific to one industry or function – regardless it is still illegal
If a prospective employer asks you for this information: WALK OUT.
Is it mandated by the Geneva Convention ?
Are we living in Germany under the Fuehrer (Hitler). Don’t you notice is happening here now, we are being striped of our privacy and more intrusion on our homes from the big interests and the government.
Give them a fake one
