Job search essentials: Cover letter, resume, and your Facebook password? [video]

Concerns over privacy with the use of Facebook remain a concern in the minds of many, but they’re usually founded on Facebook’s own privacy policy. Now there’s a different concern, companies out there, including law enforcement in Madison, Wisconsin are requiring that applicants give them access to log in to their personal Facebook pages, essentially serving as a background check. Is this an illegal practice? Not necessarily, there are no laws in the book right now, but companies do risk lawsuits from these applicants and even Facebook itself, which is against this practice as it violates its terms of service.

  7. the asking for fb password , is illegal..thats why many congress , & reps , are asking for which company , also fb wont allow it .. but if it meant , food on table , paying bills , i would make a fake profile ,& give em that .. .. as for crd chk , i know tons that do that , to see if wanted in another state , police issues , stolen anything .. { heck i dont ,mind that } had to get a clearance through FBI & secret service , just for top secret clearance , just for a recept job ..
