Two weeks ago, pizza chain Pizza Patron caused a stir when they announced “Pizza por favor”: a one-day promotion across all their locations where customers would get a free large pepperoni pizza if they ordered it in Spanish.
Despite controversy from both non-Latino and Latino groups (the latter came from Marcela Gomez and the Hispanic Marketing Group, who said that the marketing ploy was discrimination), Pizza Patron followed through with their promotion. Was it successful? Looks like it judging by the picture below:
The photo, taken by @elmundodemando, shows a long line forming outside of one Pizza Patron’s three Austin, Texas locations. That just goes to show you that above all else, folks will do anything for free food.
Did you, like any of the customers above, show off your Spanish skills for a pizza?

Not surprising. Whenever restaurants have brought up the touchy subject of a language preference they experience success due to the huge press that comes from it, for example when a restaurant in NC posted the English only sign its business tripled. But hey its only discrimination if someone does it to you right? God bless double standards.
My favorite part of this story were the comments on this site when it was first reported. Everyone was screaming “Everyone should learn Spanish!” They sounded just like the racist Nativist who scream “Everyone should learn English!” Again, god bless double standards.
Lol not at the one I went to. They called the cops and the news lol. People called corporate. It was soooo funny. I took pics…
