Have you registered to vote yet?
If you haven’t, remember that there are forces within your government that wish to keep it that way.
Despite the lack of evidence of the alleged voter fraud pandemic, Republican officials continue to pass voter ID laws that have already proven to disproportionately affect minority voters. Now some of the most prominent Republicans are expressing hope for a low minority voter turnout.
On Monday, House Speaker John Boehner said, “This election is about economics… [Latinos and Blacks] have been hit the hardest. They may not show up and vote for our candidate, but I’d suggest to you they won’t show up and vote for the president either.”
Boehner is essentially admitting that the Republican Party is counting on apathy from minority voters to win this election. Rather than devising a strategy to win their votes in November, the GOP is hoping minorities won’t care about the election enough to vote; and they hope to disenfranchise those that do.
When The Atlantic Wire ran a headline that read, “Boehner says Out Loud He Hopes Black and Latinos ‘Won’t Show Up’ This Election,” other news organizations accused them of twisting the Speaker’s words.
In a well-articulated article, The Atlantic Wire defended their headline:
“Mediate called the headline ‘misleading’ while right-leaning Newsbusters called it ‘slander.’ But we think it’s pretty clear what Boehner said: he hopes that Republicans will do well in the elections because he believes (‘I suggest to you’) minority voter turnout will be low (‘they won’t show up’). ‘Boehner Hopes for Republicans to Win This Election’ would have been a more boring headline, but it would have been just as accurate.”
Boehner’s remarks also echo comments recently made by other Republican leaders.
In June, Pennsylvania House Republican leader Mike Turzai blatantly admitted that the point of voter ID laws is to help Republicans win when he said, “Voter ID, which is going to allow Governor Romney to win the state of Pennsylvania, done.”
Regardless of your political affiliation, take a second to think about that. For Democrats, it’s a clear message that any liberal person of color is not welcome at the polls. For Black and Latino Republicans, it should be alarming to realize that your family, friends, and neighbors are being disenfranchised and barred from practicing our country’s most basic constitutional right.
If you’re unaffiliated, or planning to not participate in the election because “all politicians are the same,” at least consider the possibility that you could be abandoning your peers who have a lot to gain by electing a liberal agenda. At least consider the fact that Democrats have historically adopted liberal and progressive values given enough time. At least consider registering to vote.

Vote, and vote against anyone who doesn’t want you voting, it’s a big clue!
Maybe they shouldn’t have disrespected the Puerto Rican delegate !
Says who?
How does showing an ID make the minority feel disproportionately? We need an ID for anything else we do and what’s wrong with verifying who you are, it stops things like this: http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2012/09/02/3497857/group-says-it-found-30000-dead.html?fb_action_ids=512937885398711&fb_action_types=og.recommends&fb_source=aggregation&fb_aggregation_id=288381481237582
i will never understand how showing a ID is racist,u have to show ID to get a disabled bus pass,is that racist also then?
@ Mario Ramirez…
There are reasons why even a legal citizen lacks a valid ID. Example: a valid ID could be a driver’s license. What’s wrong with that? Not everybody drives! How about a military ID? Not everybody has served in the military! What about a person who’s disabled and doesn’t drive nor been in the military?
I don’t care who votes or for who they vote for. Just be a legal citizen and be prepared to show a legit ID like we are asked to for everything else in everyday life. BL stop being the Democrat stooges that you are. You are getting your panties all in a twist because you know that the majority of voter fraud will benefit your party.

WOW, more of this “gotta keep the latinos from voting” nonsense. LOL
It gets better if you are a conspiracy nut…give me a sec and I will come up with some scenarios.
Ok so at the voting areas of color we will have men in white hoods on horse back yielding torches so Latinos cannot vote.

ID is required for MANY MANY MANY other things in this country why is it that you would like to use this excuse Diaz! yes i am calling you out! And then try to say its because the Republicans dont want you to go out and vote “Para con las mentiras y de darle miedos falsos a nuestra gente!!! Si no salen nuestra gente es por articlulos coo estos!
Jes, da Republikkkan war on Lateeenos continues: I mean it’s so bad that although I have always voted Republican, the other day these scary looking white dudes with sunglasses and suits visited my home in Long island and told me I was not allowed to vote for any party because of my Lateeeno sounding name!
