On March 10, potentially hundreds of thousands of undocumented immigrants and their supporters will march through America’s major cities in honor of
National Coming Out of the Shadows Day, when the millions of undocumented immigrants living in the U.S. are urged to make their presence known.
First organized in Chicago in 2010 by the Immigrant Youth Justice League, undocumented immigrants are encouraged to “come out” to their friends, their neighbors, their teachers, their classmates, their coworkers, their city and their country. IYJL describes itself as “a Chicago-based organization led by undocumented youth working towards full recognition of the rights and contributions of all immigrants.”
While Chicago has become the main stage for immigrant activist since the massive demonstrations organized there in 2006, immigrant advocates in cities across the nation will hold their own National Coming Out of the Shadows Day demonstrations, specifically in places like Los Angeles, Arizona, Texas, Georgia, D.C. and New York.

Immigration is not just a Latino issue; it’s an American issue.
Not in Miami latinos are too busy partying @ Calle Ocho plus cubans don’t face the problems other latinos go through it sucks but true
This a tough issue
Rather than march for immigration reform march to end the senseless killings in Mexico rather trying to get citizenship. No offense it is a lost cause at this time and Obama as well as the Republicans do not have the political will to make this happen and the voters do not whole heartedly suport it. Just like KONY2012 there should be a campaign to stop the killings in Mexico. Just sayin!!
Immigrants are a part of U.S. culture and made it what it is today. Everyone wants to blame the country’s problems on the immigrants because they don’t want to put the other gov’t policies that don’t work under a microscope. They aren’t scapegoats coño!
Illegal immigration needs to stop at some point. This is the only country ppl just think they can come and go as they please without the need to follow any rules… all have to do is pull out the racist card and the entire melting pot bs and we lose half a country on the actual issue. We need to follow the rules and stop coming here leaving babies behind and making new babies with the hopes of being able to stay here applying for all kids of social assistance and getting upset when they want to deport you like you didn’t do anything wrong. The economy sucks too much to just be letting anyone in… in any other country they would send u back without thinking twice about. In PR we used to deport dominicans aggressively.
Basically it’s saying: I am breaking your American laws, I don’t care about your American laws, you can’t do anything to me anyway cause we bad, go “F” yourselves America, the education argument is just a ploy, we will be your masters one day! A leftist multiculturalists wet dream I am sure. Just for that uppity bombastic attitude everyone that is here illegally and wants to cash in on the Dream Act entitlement should be exposed for the fraud they are and rapidly shown the door. I hope legal citizens and legal residents wake up and see how America is being fleeced.
Coño???? You realize that you were making some good points until you referred to me by the above term. Now you suound like a thug with little intelligence who has to resort to personal attacks. I beg to differ with you, the illegal immigrants in this country are scapegoats who were abandoned by their own governments that support corruption and murder. In addition, being that they are illegal, they do not have a say in any legislation. All they can do is await the verdict.
And you guys stop messing with the language. Immigrants are one thing. Illegal immigrants are another-they break the laws. Big difference between the two.
Must…resist…urge…to…flip…out…
they dont mind exploiting them
but they gota lay low
know their place
Just cuz your parents were political emigres does not make their circunstnces that faced in their home country any less different for undocumented immigrnats. So, keep on hating because you all are the prodcts of illegal immigration and all of yo according to the far right are anchor babies. And puerto ricans don’t even know if they are americans or puerto ricans… puerto rico is a territory and not a state of thee US until then stop acting like
you’re better than other latinos because if ppuerto rico was not a territory I can assure you that there would an influx of undocumentd puerto ricans in the states.
Not all Latinos who live here came here illegally. This is not about hate. Romelia said it best.
Cubans should not be granted political asylum and their children should not be citizens automatically. They should have some legal status but no citizenship.
I hope it’s a peaceful n’ to the point march:) Luv my Latinos!!! but most important i hope someone is leading the march is someone who is strong and well educated so he can guide them respectfully. And also make sure they wave the American Flag not the Mexican flag. It’s important u show u luv this country who has given many of us freedom:) God Bless you all!!!!!!
Romelia regurgitated every fallacious talking point that has been DEBUNKED over and over again with FACTS but, like simple minds, simple arguments are easier to grasp.
It’s not about simple minds and simple arguments. It’s pretty straightforward. There is a difference between illegal immigration and legal immigration. The USA is the best nation on earth when you compare it to others. It has its flaws — case in point, the federal governments apprehensive position on border enforcement, and its refusal to do what is right so as not to anger a particular group. The law is the law. If you don’t like law, change it. However, the vast majority of Americans, including millions of Latinos, want our laws to be respected as well as our sovereignty.
The first lie was to say that illegal immigrants are Latinos, they are NOT! Undocumented Eastern Europeans flood our cities too, but I am still 10000000% against illegal immigrants. The legal immigrants work so hard to get here and sacrifice much, yeah, even the legal immigrants from Mexico and other countires in SA. We do a disservice to those who obey the laws and do things right. I will not reward any criminal. The USA can change the way it does business so that other countries can grow more corn and wheat.. or other produce but coming here illegally doesn’t help matters in the long run for any other nation. If you can’t come here by legal means, stay out!
Fact: undocumented immigrants cannot receive government assistance. Fact: undocumented immigrants contribute to the economy in the billions as well as the social security check your parents and grandparents are receiving and they won’t get a dime of that back. Fact: they pay taxes just like you and I do. Fact: the economy would collapse of it wasn’t for their cheap labor. Fact: Rush Limbaugh is a moron and so is everyone who regurgitates his vitriol. <Fact.
Sandra Rodriguez, I came here legally. Did illegal immigration affect that? No. <Fact. Oh, and I did have to wait years for that. <Fact. Is there some form of egocentric narcissism in your points? Yes, because you and Romelia and Lee and a Mario "got it" doesn't mean you must forget about everyone else who is trying to make a better living for themselves, their kids and their families. Undocumented immigrants don't lower your standard of living. They in FACT raise it but you know who lowers it? Rich folks in a corrupt and unstable "capitalist," which is more like a handout or welfare state for the rich, society. <Sound argument.
And God forbid you all call yourselves Christians, for I swear to not even a hair in my receding hairline that you are not one but confused charlatans.
Ever hear of NAFTA? They attack Mexico’s economy and then wonder why their citizens come here. Sigh.
All you people preaching about abiding by American laws don’t seem to be so vocal about the laws that are skirted by those who can afford top rate attorneys. Please with your “follow the law” crap. Laws are made to benefit those in control. They can make a law tomorrow saying your illegal and kick you out, would you follow that law?
Yes, America’s foreign policy actually forces people to come here. They can’t see past their erroneous talking points, Jasmine. It’s not only American laws in placed in the world when this government ravages other nations and violates humans rights from left to right. America supplants itself in all Latin American countries and runs everything from top to bottom. Milks these nations but once they place someone for the people and the people’s interest they get occupied, removed, or assassinated.
Where is the outrage for corporate welfare? You want to talk about breaking the laws but yet stand idly by when comes to the government handing out the biggest handouts not to the needy but to those corporations making billions of dollars already. Criminals? There is no bigger criminal than the one in wall street but because they have the means to influence policies, the media, and simpletons you will never here about them and instead you will here about the immigrant trying to provide a better tomorrow for his/here family being portrayed as the ultimate criminal. Hipocrites.
